The song I have chosen to write about, is JOKER.
I chose this song, because it is one of the first BREAKERZ songs I heard, and also because, this is a song, I can enjoy listening to, I can listen to this song constantly without becoming sick of hearing it.
What I like about this song is that unlike some of their latter works, JOKER has a rockier sound to it.
I also like that DAIGO incorporated an essence of meaning and simplistic ideals into his lyrics by drawing on books.
"Not all can be seen with the naked eye
The Little Prince says so"
I think this shows the innocence of the speaker, how they say "The Little Prince says so" , This is has a child like innocence to it, As though the speaker is saying 'it must be true because I read it'.
We are told as children that this is how it should be, we are brought up with these ideals, through stories, so it must be true, right? but in reality things are not as simple.
Also in regards to the lyrical content of this song, I think that many people can relate.
If you've been betrayed by someone you love, whether this is has been by; a friend, lover, family member, etc.
I think we can all understand the pain of not wanting to believe everything, because it hurts too much and so we would want to disgard this aspect of the person, but in the end aren't we hurt too much that we can't forget it? we want to hate the person for making us feel this way, however, we don't want to lose any love and trust our relationship has.
This line conveys to you what I mean by this;
"Please, don’t let me know the hidden truth in those eyes
Don’t say anything anymore
Keep it ’til your bones burn and crumble"
I feel that here the speaker is trying to say, that no matter how much I want to know the truth, don't tell me, because I don't want to be hurt anymore by it, so keep it to yourself, don't let me see this part of you, don't destroy the image I have of you.
Something I really enjoy about this song is that;
It is one of BREAKERZ more rockier sounding tracks.I think this is something which helps them to secure themselves in the rock genre, as well as allowing themselves to experiment and venture out into other musical genres, but for me, I usually prefer their songs that are more rock.
